John-Anthony Castelan is the Lead Designer at J&L Hardscapes, Austin’s premier provider of custom landscape design and construction.
By combining his eye for design and aesthetics in outdoor spaces, and his years of experience with the technical and executional elements of hardscaping and landscaping, John-Anthony and team provide high-quality work to Austin area homeowners.

How we work with you
Over our years of providing an incomparable client experience for Texas homeowners, we’ve created a streamlined process that takes you all the way from consultation and planning, to construction, to the final walkthrough of your completed landscape. Keep reading to learn more.

Initial consultation
After we receive your form submission, our team will reach out to schedule a meeting with you. In this meeting, we’ll dive into your goals and dreams and determine a project budget. We offer three levels of projects with the following budgets associated:
- Bronze package: $25,000-$35,000
- Silver package: $35,000-$75,000
- Gold package: $75,000 and up
During this meeting, we’ll also create a benchmark quote based on your needs, after which our team will move into the design development phase.

Site visit and deposit
After the initial meeting, J&L Hardscapes will come on-site to walk your property in person, reiterating what we discussed over the phone and allowing time for things to be communicated. At this stage, we will also determine the ceiling budget for your project.
Note: To ensure we can dedicate the necessary time and expertise to your project, J&L Hardscapes will require a $500 consultation fee for all site visits and proposals.
This fee covers:
- A detailed, custom proposal tailored to your specific needs.
- Reserved time for serious inquiries.
If you decide to proceed with your project, the $500 consultation fee will be applied towards your total project cost.
After the site visit, J&L Hardscapes will collect a deposit of $5,000 to begin the process of ideating and planning the design of your custom landscape. This deposit will be applied as a discount to your total project cost after the design phase.

3D modeling and proposal
Our expert landscape designers will create an initial sketch, a 3D model with still shots, and a video walk-through of the proposed design in order to give you the full picture of the finished product.
Once this design and model is presented to you, you will have the freedom to make changes and revisions until you are completely satisfied with the final designs.
- 04.
The enrichment begins
Once the design is fully approved, J&L Hardscapes will be able to provide you with an accurate cost of installation. We will send you a full proposal via email breaking down the scope of work and project cost, with the $5,000 deposit applied as a discount.
